One Sweet Piece of Technology!

The Rebel, by Whisper Creek Archery, is just one of the new archery line produced by this local Utah company. I had the opportunity to meet up with the crew of Whisper Creek at a recent hunting Expo in Salt Lake City. I usually walk around these Expo's, which I attend a lot of them each year, looking for the new, unique or just plain cool products to share with the listeners of our weekly radio show. I knew as soon as I laid eyes on the Whisper Creek Archery bows, I had to learn more.

I stopped at their booth and took a closer look at this unique new addition to the archery World and quickly realized this company had taken great care in producing something new and not just a replica of technology already on the market. I asked if they had a left handed model I could test out on the archery course set up at the Expo. They did everything they could, even tearing down one of the Staff members own bows to extend the draw length and get it in my hands to try out. I was truly impressed in the extra effort I saw them show everyone that stopped past the booth.

On the second day of the Expo, the Crew from Whisper Creek came over with smiles and handed me a "test" model to shoot. It had no sights, but I felt comfortable enough with my shooting skills to aim without. I aimed in on a 3-D target of a standing black bear at about 32 yards and let it fly. I must say, I was listening for any noise during the draw and the shot, and heard nothing... I also felt very little, if any, hand vibration or shock as I released the arrow. The first arrow, was high and a little right. I minor adjustment in my aiming and the second arrow was right in the bulls-eye. I followed it up with a third shot in the 8 ring.

The Phone Call and Tour

Shortly after the show, I received a phone call to stop past the Whisper Creek Archery manufacturing plant, located in Woods Cross, Utah, not far from my home. The invitation to come tour their manufacturing plant was a very welcome trip as I was very curious on how these bows are made and the technology behind them. I was in for an experience. I arrived at the main offices, not sure what to expect, a nice building, modern and new, one a block of many warehouse looking building on the street. Little did I know, that each one of these buildings lining this street, places a vital part in each step of the manufacturing and production of this archery equipment.

I was introduced to all the Staff in the main office and found instantly, a common thread... Everyone was smiling. And I mean like they really had a lot to be happy about. They all love their jobs and it was very apparent. We headed off to the final assembly area of the bows first, to see what the final products look like before heading out to see how they are made. I had a big surprise coming. As we walked around the assembly area, I was handed a left handed bow and told to "give this one a try". I smiled and walked over to their shooting range to give it a fly! I am used to a arrow rest that holds the arrow as I hunt from a tree stand often, and had a few problems drawing back the 32" draw with the short arrows they normally use for testing. My fault, with my long arms.. They grabbed a new uncut arrow and I was off.

I drew back slowly and listened. Not a sound, and smooth. Wow, I was impressed. The back wall of this bow was soild and smooth. I let the arrow fly and before I could even realize the shot was off, the arrows was buried deep in the target. All I could say was, "man, that was fast!" They asked how it felt and I could not say enough. They said good, because that's your new bow! Now go test the heck out of it.

I was tuned in and ready to learn everything I could about this new piece of equipment I found in my hands for the upcoming deer hunt. We headed out to see just how these bows come to be. We walked trough the rest of the main office warehouse, a large area that contains several of their other manufacturing businesses, as well as the final archery testing area. Then across the street to the first of several areas that contribute to not only the archery equipment manufactured for Whisper Creek Archery, but for other outdoor and non outdoor related companies. This diversity places an important part for all companies they control, by having the availability to manufacture, produce, and assemble, right on site. From the manufacturing of the riser, the dipping of the camoflauge, the final testing and assembly all in one group. This has aloud Whisper Creek to develop and implement never before introduced features that in my opinion, sets them in a class by themsleves. Top quality products, produced within the confines and control of stringent specifications, with State of the Art equipment, and by people who truly love what they do. A recipe for success and superior products!
