KELTY ZEPHYR 0 Degree Sleeping Bag!

KELTY ZEPHYR 0 Degree Sleeping Bag!Kelty

Review by Cris Draper, the Trail Master

Kelty Zephyr Sleeping Bag

Why wait? If you are feeling that camping bug hit you and the temperature outside is still below what most people may consider "comfortable" to spend the night in the back country, then take a look at the Kelty Zephyr 0 Degree Sleeping bag.

Designed for those nights when the chill would drive most campers off the mountain I have to agree this bag meets the most demanding needs.

I recently took the Kelty Zephyr Sleeping bag out on a trip planned just to test out gear. I picked a evening that would get close to the rating for this sleeping bag, which is rated by the manufacture to 0 degrees. I teamed up the Zephyr with a Term-A-Rest Tough Skin sleeping pad, and tucked the set up in my Hennessy Hammock.

For location, I hiked into a local campground which allows for winter camping and selected a spot between two trees which the wind had blown most of the 80+" base of snow out of the hollow formed between them. Using my G3 AviTECH Shovel I removed the remaining snow to give myself a good depression to shed the wind and a steady base to walk and set up camp on. I got things set up, had myself a little dinner and tucked in for the night. I awoke about 1 AM to the sound of skiers going down the trail which was not far off and check the temperature. 12 degrees.. I could feel the cold in the air, but was warm and comfortable inside the Zephyr Sleeping bag. All in all not a bad night! I slept well.

The use of 650 Goose down fill gives this bag both light weight and pack ability for those early, late or even middle of the winter camping situations. Packed with features, I look forward to getting out on many trips with this bag!

THIS BAG ROCKS!

Ground Level Seams keep the chill out by trapping rising heat in the Zephyr Sleeping Bag by Kelty.I am 6'7" tall and the Zephyr Long model I was sent for testing had plenty of room. I'll start with the bottom of the sleeping bags and move up covering some of the assets the Zephyr offers. The unique footbed design allows plenty of room. The Zephyr starts with enough insulation in the bottom of the bag to definitely keep the chill out, then add in ground level seams to help trap rising heat and you have a fantastic foundation to keep you warm.

The trapezoidal foot bed design allows for moving your feet around comfortably which greatly increases circulation and blood flow and tons of insulation keep the toes nice and warm. This expanded, three-dimensional area is created by inserting fabric between the top and bottom layers at the end of the bag. Two way locking zippers ont he Kelty Zephyr Sleeping bag.It provides extra footroom and additional comfort.

Moving up the sleeping bags feature to the shoulder area, the modified mummy style gave me enough room to really get comfy. Two way locking zippers help you ventilate, if needed, The baffle collar adds insulation to keep the draft away.yet lock securely when zipped closed. Insulation tubes are placed along the zipper and at the neck area to prevent heat from escaping. In colder weather bags, the baffle collar can be drawn in to customize the fit.
